Ponta dos Ganchos

BRAZIL

Ponta dos Ganchos is tucked away on a densely forested private peninsula just an hour from Florianopolis. A highlight of Brazil’s Emerald Coast, this beach hideaway has just 25 private villas built on to the steep hillside, offering spectacular views over the jungle canopy to the sea beyond. When guests tire of the plunge pools, in-room saunas and spacious suites the villas offer, days can be filled with boat trips, yacht excursions, diving, hiking trails, yoga, treatments at the Sisley Spa and tennis. Privacy and personalised service is the order of the day; guests are welcome to enjoy a private dinner on the hotel’s private island, sip caipirinhas on the beach, or enjoy a picnic in the hotel gardens as they enjoy unrivalled views of the Emerald Coast.

Additional Information

  • Whilst Ponta dos Ganchos is designed principally for adults, it has a flexible minimum age policy, so please do enquire with the team. The property is set within a quiet and secluded spot, so is best suited for those looking to relax and enjoy the privacy and scenery Ponta dos Ganchos has to offer. With separate, private villas and other facilities spread out through the forest, the design is perfect for couples looking for a romantic break. Given the setting, with steep steps and walkways connecting different parts of the property, those with mobility issues should check with the hotel before booking. Note that guests can request buggies to travel between parts of the property.

  • Ponta dos Ganchos’ peaceful, quiet and secluded setting offers an unrivalled opportunity to relax and unwind. For those looking for a more active trip, there is plenty on offer. The small islands surrounding the beach protect it from the larger bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond, making it a wonderful swimming spot - snorkels, masks and flippers are provided at the hotel’s beach, as are canoes and stand up paddle boards. There is an indoor pool for the cooler winter months, and a gym for those looking to stay active; yoga can also be arranged, either in-villa or elsewhere in the hotel’s grounds. Staff can arrange boat trips (either by traditional fishing boat, complete with oysters and champagne, or by modern motor boat for those looking for more of a thrill) as well as excursions further afield such as guided hikes, rafting, scuba diving and paragliding. On site, guests can enjoy tennis and beach tennis, explore the grounds via short nature trails, and unwind over a game of pool in the hotel’s games room, or with a movie in the private cinema. The Spa by Sisley looks over the sea and offers a variety of pampering therapies, massages and treatments.

  • Ponta dos Ganchos is an all-year-round destination. High Season is from December to April, where daytime temperatures are higher but, thanks to the coastal breeze, tend not to exceed 30 degrees centigrade. Travelling in the warmer months is ideal for guests looking to enjoy time sunbathing and swimming at the hotel’s beach. Due to the higher humidity during January and February these months can experience tropical downpours. During the winter months of June to September temperatures usually reach around 21 degrees centigrade.

  • The vast majority of the workforce at Ponta dos Ganchos are local residents from the fishing village. Many of them are sons and daughters of the local fishing community itself.

In the Organic Garden organic waste goes through a composting process, and is used for fertilizing the vegetable garden. All waste is recycled and treated waste water from the sewage station is used for gardening. Rainwater is harvested for laundry and to wash the hotel’s vehicles.

The bungalows have an intelligent and sustainable design, with cross ventilation, solar panels, green rooves, and have been built using sustainably-sourced timber. More than ten thousand native tree seedlings have been planted in the surrounding area.
