VIK CHILE – SANTA CRUZ, CHILE
Vik Chile reigns over the Millahue Valley, part of the famous Santa Cruz Wine Region. Designed to resemble a gold ring – Millahue translates as “place of gold” in the native Mapuche language – the hotel’s titanium roof glows forth from its privileged position above vine-lined hills and a large lagoon. In 2014, the hotel began life with 22-rooms and early 2019 saw the addition of 7 “Puro Vik” glass suites built into the surrounding hillside. More akin to modern art gallery than a classic hotel: no two pieces of furniture are the same, and the bedroom themes range from Hermes to hessian walls and hyperrealism. Days are spent wine tasting and exploring the vineyard on foot, bicycle or horseback. One thousand of the 11,000 acres are sewn with vines – demanding a workforce of 400 people since almost everything is done by hand – and the grapes take the form of five varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc.

Getting There: VIK Chile is accessible via Santiago Airport (SCL), which is serviced daily from international airports around the world. The property is a two-hour drive from the airport (40 mins by helicopter).
